I just apply for an ABN following some tutorials on YouTube to set up one as a sole trader running food delivery service. However, it ended up with my application pending and I just got the reference number which I can't use it to track the progress of my ABN application either through the ABN Lookup website. Additionally, I also didn't receive any email regarding this matter.

Can I contact the ATO to get more information regarding my application so I can clarify straightaway if the ATO need some further information?

Therefore, I can obtain my ABN a bit sooner because I am currently on term break/holiday and want to do something to earn money.

Hi @C_A

When you apply for an ABN, you won't always get one automatically. Once the application is processed the Australian Business Register (ABR) may have to check some details and this could take up to 20 business days. This is why you would've received a reference number. But never fear, you don't need to contact them, they'll reach out to you if they need more info from you.

Have a read of the ABN application process on the ABR website for more info!
