Hey everyone,

Since working full time for the past 6-7 years and my salary increasing annually, my tax returns have been significant over the past 4 years or so. I have declared everything and because I work for a government organisation, I have no personal work expenses to claim or any deductions etc.

For the last 3 years, my tax returns continue being roughly around the same number. Say for example last year I earned 116k and my final payslip before the end of the financial year read 68k nett and 48k paid in tax. I assume my ratio is way to high and that is why I get such a significant refund? Furthermore, is it my responsibility to contact my employer or the government to change my fortnightly tax rate or should I just leave it as be if I am happy with receiving a good refund at the end of the financial year?

Cheers and hope I was clear enough above.

Hi @baetzy,

We don't have access to your info to explain the refund amount, but your notice of assessment should give some insight. It could be that your employer is withholding more than necessary?

If you want to change the amount withheld, you can provide an updated withholding declaration to your employer.
