My husband and I are members of different health insurance funds. The details I could find on the ato website discussed the changes in rebate percentage when one of a couple turn 65 when they are both members of the same policy. I can't find any information to describe whether the same applies when the couple are not members of the same policy. My husband turns 65 before the end of this financial year, so if we need to be on the same policy, we'll need to make that change rather soon. Appreciate some help please.

Hi @SarahBD,

You can have separate policies! The requirement for the Medicare levy surcharge is that you have an appropriate level of cover.

Where you're the only adult covered by the PHI policy, your share of the policy for rebate purposes is the total cost of the policy excluding any lifetime health cover. You are income tested to work out your rebate entitlement.

Here are instructions to work out your tax claim code.
