Hi everyone, my 14 year old is about to commence work at McDonalds. It says he has to be 15 to apply for a TFN online, so how do I go about applying for one? Thankyou so much for your help.

Hi @Pickledpie,

There are some other options to apply for a TFN. I'd suggest the Australia Post option is a good one because you use the online form and present identity docs at a post office. Check the list for participating outlets and take the application summary with you. But you can also do a paper form via post or at a Services Australia centre.

In terms of proof of identity, he'll need two current docs, one of which must be a primary doc (for example, birth certificate).

If they're his only employer, he may want to claim the tax-free threshold. Take a look at our new to tax and super page for other things to consider, like lodging his first tax return and accessing ATO online services.

Best of luck with those fries!
