Good morning.

I am a sole trader who sells a skill for payment.

I am now on the quarterly activity statements with the ATO.

my question please: if i purchase a new phone when do i declare that in my tax return?

at this stage i just pay the bill that the ATO calculate every 3 months off last years tax bill.

so do i claim the portion of the phone in the end of financial year tax entry? Or do i need to do it in the last quarterly activity statement of this financial year?

this is my only means of communicating with my ‘boss’ so is an essential part of my work. This is how i receive work etc.

Hi @Swimmer

You claim any eligible expenses you have for your business in your end of year tax return not in your activity statements.

You can claim the decline in value for your device as well as phone calls and data usage related to your business. You can't claim any private use. Here's some info about When businesses can claim tax deductions for depreciating assets and Mobile phone, mobile internet and other devices.
