I have never owned a home, but my partner has. I dont consider the property mine as it is all in his name and purchased before we got together.

Because I'm with him, does that mean I lose out on the first home owner grants?

Hi @Hanky2001,

That'll depend on the rules in your state.

Are you legally partnered? In QLD at least it says neither you or your spouse can have owned property.

Best to check with the revenue department of your state.

Definitely not an ATO question though as they have nothing to do with the Home Owners Grant. 👌

In most Australian states, you can still qualify for the FHOG as long as you have never owned property and your partner doesn’t apply with you. But if you apply together, and your partner has previously owned a home, that usually disqualifies you both.

So if the property is fully in his name and you’re not on the title, and you apply solo, you may still be eligible. Best thing to do is check the exact criteria with your state’s revenue office to be sure
