Regarding recent court ruling [link removed by moderator].

Do I still need to pay taxes on profits on my sold BTC? Also how I can expect to get a tax refund for previous years if I paid Capital Tax Gains on BTC and other crypto currencies?

Thank you.

At this stage, nothing has changed regarding crypto. You still pay CGT as usual. This ruling you are referring to was held at a State Court in Victoria. It will need to reach Federal and then High Courts for it to be effective. With the current government already looking to tax unrealized gains on super, it is very unlikely they will let crypto be treated as money and abolish any CGT. Just hold on to your crypto, don't sell, and you don't pay CGT. Wait for this court ruling to settle.
