My previous employer went bankrupt and didn’t pay me around $10,000 in wages that I was owed. I just wanted to check—can this unpaid amount be claimed as a deduction on my tax return?

Did the employer report via payroll that you had been paid that money ?

Sorry to hear about your situation. That’s a tough spot to be in.
You can’t claim unpaid wages as a deduction in your tax return as they’re not considered an expense.
If you’re trying to recover unpaid wages from a bankrupt employer, you’ll need to speak with Fair Work. Or check if you’re eligible under the Fair Entitlements Guarantee.
