My vehicle logbook has been completely wiped from the app/ ATO website and I can’t find any way to retrieve this. This is super frustrating and I’ve heard that it’s an issue with services Australia?? Is there any way I’m able to retrieve a copy of this/ or still put my deductions through??

Hey @Jay.D,

Hmm, originally did you upload it through the ATO app itself or through MyGov (Like logging onto MyGov to access ATO Online Services)?

If your logbook was only stored in the ATO app and not backed up or uploaded to MyGov directly, it’s probably not recoverable if the app itself was deleted or reset, as the data is saved locally on your device until uploaded.

I don't think this is a Service Australia issue because we created the tool for tax purposes.

Have you by any chance ever emailed a copy to yourself or to a tax agent?

Did you use it last year? A copy could be saved there (ATO Portal > Tax > Lodgments > Income tax).

You can still claim car expenses using logbook method if you recreate the logbook or use previous logbook (As long as it's no more than 5 years old).

If you can't do it this way, you could still use the cents per kilometre method as that doesn't require a logbook. You'd just estimate the work-related travel.

If you want to double check and can't see anything through your Online Services, you can give us a call directly.
