Hi all,

I am wondering if it's acceptable to be claiming rideshare to work as a deduction? I don't drive and primarily WFH. My office is a shared space with no storage. I'm an IT professional and maybe once a week I have to uber to work as I don't drive. I take and uber instead of public transport because I am carrying a few computers and a number of VR headsets when I visit the office. It's essential work equipment and supplies.

Would this fall withing the guidelines to claim as other vehicle deductions?

Up to you to determine using the ATO guidelines. See when trips between home and work carrying bulky tools and equipment is claimable.

Trips you can and can't claim | Australian Taxation Office

Under any ATO review of your claim the following evidence would be required to substantiate your claim

A list of equipment and tools carried to assess their bulkiness (i.e. they cannot conveniently be carried on public transport)

A letter from your employer that states you are required to carry these tools and equipment between home and your workplace as there is no safe area at the workplace to store them (or maybe that you are required to use them at home as part of your work duties)
