Effective date for my tax return was 18th all it says is balancing account?

That “balancing account” status just means we have finished processing your return and now just doing the final reconciliation before issuing the refund or confirming the tax amount owed for the 2025 financial year.
How long does this usually take? I have been waiting over 5 weeks

Most returns that go to balancing account are finalised within two weeks after the effective date, but delays can happen for a few reasons. Sometimes we’re doing extra checks or waiting on information from another government agency.
If it’s been over five weeks, it’s a good idea to check your myGov (if you’re linked to our online services). You can also use the ATO app to see if there are any updates or messages. Otherwise, you can give us a call and we'll confirm if there’s an issue holding things up.
