Would a subscription to The Australian Financial Review be considered tax deduction for a Share investor? For example someone who earns income from buying blue-chip Australian shares.

Guidelines on deductible expenses (note only the cost of specialist investment journals and subscriptions is mentioned)

Interest, dividend and other investment income deductions | Australian Taxation Office

There are also these guidelines for newspapers, etc. under work-related deductions (same principles will apply for any income-producing purpose)

Books, periodicals and digital information | Australian Taxation Office

Up to you to determine, but I would suggest as a share investor it would more likely than not be not deductible. Share investing is generally a passive activity (unlike share trading)
