Hi there,
I've been getting quotes for home batteries under the new federal rebate. There seems to be a discrepancy with how different installers are applying the rebate. Some apply before GST and others apply after.
For example, say the base cost is $10K and the rebate is $5K.
Installer A will apply the rebate before GST. So that's 10K - 5K = 5K. Then add GST on top, resulting in a final price of $5500.
Installer B will apply the rebate after GST. So that's 10K + GST = 11K. Less the 5K rebate gets a final price of $6000.
Basically, installer B is acting like the rebate has GST applied to it. I've read in the past that's how the solar panel rebate should be calculated, but not sure that's the same for home batteries.
Which method is correct? Obviously applying the rebate before GST is cheaper.
Thanks.
