Hi , I’m a registered nurse and I started a Masters in health services management at UTS in January this year . It is under Fee help . So far , It has cost $7000 in total . Can I claim this as a deduction ?

it directly relates to my career progression as I will be a Nurse Manager soon. I’m already working as a second in charge .

Thank you

I would say unlikely.

Generally, self-education deduction is for education related to your CURRENT employment duties not your future employment duties. Your current employment is registered nurse, not nurse manager.

"Self-education has a sufficient connection to earning your employment income if it either:

  • maintains or improves the specific skills or knowledge you require for your current employment activities
  • results in, or is likely to result in, an increase in your income from your current employment activities."
