I am a student (subclass 500), I am engaged in a 24hour care per shift in disability sector. My roster is 07:00am to the following day 07:00am. 8 hours in it is an active support and others will fall as a passive support. I have a flat rate of more than $300 per shift. How many shift can I take per fortnight in this set-up?

Hey Mary

This isn't a tax question, it is really immigration and employment law. You should get some advice promptly. I would suggest your local community legal service, which gives free legal advice. NSW Unions has a Migrant worker hub for advice, and you can also Google Jobwatch, RAILS, or call the Fair Work Ombudsman.

The Visa FAQ says you may work 48 hours in a fortnight while actively studying.

Based on the information you provided, you are working 8 hours a shift but on call for 16. Typically a worker cannot work more than 12 hours in a day. The pay and conditions you mentioned need further examination but this should be with an expert in visas and employment.

Support workers working 48 hours a fortnight should earn around 1200-1500 plus overtime, and shift penalties but less tax. $300 may be OK for a shift but not for 24 hours in the workplace. Get in touch with someone really soon hey?
