Hi, I recently noticed that I have to include super sacrifice amount in the income calculation for Medicare levy surcharge (MLS) purposes.
In 2023-24, the total of my taxable income + super sacrifice and my partner’s was over $186,000 threshold.
My own income was over $27,222 minimum.
No investment losses.
No children.
So I wanted to amend my tax return to pay MLS.
But when I answer I didn’t have hospital cover, it automatically says ‘you do not have to pay the medical levy surcharge’.
It doesn’t lead me to answer ‘number of days you do not have to pay the surcharge’ so I am not able to fix it.
Why do I not have to pay MLS?
If I have to, how can I fix it?
I’m afraid ATO might contact me later and ask for MLS + interest.
