I'm an international student on a 1 year visa (subclass 500), studying a postgrad at an Australian uni. Next week I'm starting a casual work position and will need to fill out a tax-declaration to send to the employer. My employer has no clue how I should fill it in so I have been trying to figure out if I'm considered an Australian resident for taxation purposes or foreign/temporary resident.

Would also like to find out if I'm then eligible for the 18,200 no tax threshold. Would really appreciate some guidance!

Australian resident for tax purposes. May also be a temporary resident.

International students here for at least 6 months or more are taxed at Australian resident tax rates.

On a temporary visa with dependents (if any) who are not permanent residents or citizens of Australia will mean you are a temporary resident as well.

Use the tool to confirm.
