I’m a New Zealand citizen living in Australia and need Strong identity strength in the myGovID app to access ATO Online Services (STP and SGC).

In the myGovID app, when I go to Identity → Strengthen identity, the only passport option shown is Australian passport. There is no option to select a foreign passport (e.g. New Zealand).

I do not have an Australian passport. I do have:

  • A valid New Zealand passport
  • A valid Australian visa (Special Category Visa – SCV 444)

I understand NZ passports are supported, but the app UI does not present this option. Backing out and re-entering the flow still only shows “Australian passport”.

This appears to be a known app issue affecting non-Australian citizens and is preventing me from reaching Strong identity.

Can someone advise:

  1. How to correctly add a New Zealand passport in the app when it is not shown as an option, or
  2. How to have my identity flow reset/escalated so the correct passport options appear?

I have already linked my Medicare card and attached it to my myGov Account which has all my TFN etc. attached?

Device: Android Samsung S25 Ultra

App Version: 3.10.0.3

Hi @Sahil24,

To achieve a strong myID identity strength only Australian Passports 'are accepted' in terms of passports.

Just this year they have started branching out to other identity documents. So far on the list is a Driver's Licence from Western Australia. I have heard NSW was also on the list of DL's to use but it's not showing on their website as an option.

They are slowly branching this out to include all states, but as it stands, these are the options currently available. 👌
