I am a salaried employee on a fortnightly pay frequency.

Part way through this FY the employer changed the week that we receive our pay on. We get paid 76 hours every fortnight, and our first pay day this year was on 9/07/25 and then we were paid fortnightly after that up to and including 20/08/25.

Then they changed the week pay day was on. They paid us 38 hours (one week) on 27/08/25 to facilitate the change.

Then our next pay was on 10/09/25 for a normal fortnight and it continues like that for the rest of the FY with our final pay being on 17/06/26.

My question is

'Will we have been underpaid this FY by 38 hours because of this change?'

If they had not changed the week we got paid, we would have received 26 pays this FY totaling to 1976 hours paid. This means that I would have received my correct yearly remuneration as per my contract being $150,000 gross.

But instead, because of the change, we will still receive 26 pays but will only be paid for 1938 hours. This means that I will only receive $147,115.38 gross this FY.

So have we been underpaid because of the payday change?

I believe you're almost certainly "overthinking it", @julzgrab. You're receiving the same amount per day, per week and per fortnight; it's the dates you're paid that have changed.

On a positive note, given the pay dates you just specified, it appears your first fortnightly pay in FY27 will fall on 1 July 2026 and your 27th fortnightly pay will be on 30 June 2027 ... so you'll be "overpaid" in that year!

And perhaps in the next year too: depending on how your contract has been worded, you might "gain one day's pay" in a leap year, i.e. CY28. Don't spend it all at once!
