I know that travel allowance to a private rental has been stopped ,however I have conflicting advice that to Commercial / Industrial Unit is allowed.

I am not a Real Estate agent.

I own one Commercial unit in a group of 5, we have a Strata Management Company that runs all our affairs .

I attend the property to carry out maintenance and oversee the general appearance ,weekly rent collection as the tenant has a bad reputation.

To do this I travel around 55kms round trip each visit and would use the mileage system.

My Accountant has said its not covered .

looking for a definitive answer yes or no.

Hi @Richmond26,

If you own the commercial unit, you may be able to claim travel you incur to inspect, maintain, or collect rent from the property.

You can use the cents‑per‑kilometre method for your trips, as long as the travel is only for earning rental income. If any part of the trip is private, you need to apportion it.

Keep simple records such as dates, kilometres, and why you visited.
