Hi all,

My husband operates a business from home. We recently built a new house and incorporated a specific business office into the plans, which is where the business is now run from (we also have an employee). The business is registered for GST. Are we able to claim the office's portion (based on m2 of total liveable space) of the GST on construction cost?

Many thanks for your help.

Kath

Unlikely. Have a really good read of the home office stuff on the ATO website - to claim "ownership" costs the office needs to basically be incapable of being used as a normal part of your home.

Secondly, the house isn't an asset of the business - it's your home - so it would ineligible this way also.
