Hello
I'm an Australian citizen who lived in New Zealand for two years (October 2017 to October 2019) and thus paid tax there. In October 2019, I came to Australia for a long visit but due to Covid complications I am still here. I continued working part time for a New Zealand company remotely and thus lodged an income tax return there for the (March 31st) 2020 tax year as I had not been outside of New Zealand for 183 days and so was still considered a New Zealand resident for tax purposes.
However, for the (March 31st) 2021 tax year, I now realize that I was a non-resident of New Zealand and so should have lodged a tax return in Australia. Instead, I lodged it in New Zealand - I guess I was thinking that as I worked for a New Zealand company and would be returning there "any day soon". Do I need to rectify this and lodge a return in Australia for the 2020/2021 tax year even though I have already done so in New Zealand?
Would appreciate advice.
