Hi everyone,

I have a question about my non-taxable income. I have a considerable amount of gambling winnings at Casino, but Casino just gave me cash on hand and they did not give me any statement or receipt of winning money from gambling. I know that gambling winnings are not taxable, but how can I prove the origin of the money to put it in my bank account without being asked to declare income by ATO? Because if I deposit this amount of cash into my bank account, I am afraid that ATO thinks that this is my income from working.

Thank you so much,

Looking forward to your helps!

Quinn

Hi @nguyenp151011,

You do not need to declare your gambling winnings as income. You will only need to declare your gambling winnings or losses as income if you are a professional gambler carrying out a business of betting or gambling.

You can view the taxation ruling for business of betting or gambling to see whether you are a professional gambler or not.

In my understanding, one-time not a large sum will not raise questions, but often adding money to the account will be interesting ...

Good Luck!
