Email: Thanks for lodging your tax return. We need extra time to process it as we are finalising

I received an email from the ATO advising "We need extra time to process it as we are finalising other lodgements or payments you have made." Doe anyone know what this means?? I've only made one lodgement for this year. How much extra time will they need? I'm really relying on this years return.

This email was most likely sent out due to our system needing to complete some extra checks. From what I've seen, the email lists some possible reasons for why this is happening. If there are no issues, and the checks are straight-forward, it shouldn't take much longer than usual. Our service standard for online lodgements is 12 business days. Once this period has passed if your return has not finalised you can contact us for an update.
