Managing your access to our online services doesn't have to be a headache. We've got some handy tips to help you avoid common errors and keep things running smoothly!
Why does ATO online services say my sign in doesn’t meet access requirements or that I need to increase my identity strength?
If you received this type of message when accessing ATO online services (through myGov or the ATO app) it means you’ve previously used myID to sign in and you’ve set your online access strength.
To continue accessing ATO online services you need to use your myID with the same identity strength you originally had. For example, if you used a myID with a Strong identity strength to sign in previously, you need to use your Strong myID to sign in now.
Note: Your myID identity strength is unique to each device – if you’ve switched device or set up a new myID, you may need to re-verify your ID to match the highest identity strength you’ve achieved.
What is online access strength?
Using your myID to access ATO online services (through myGov or the ATO app) will automatically set your online access strength. The identity strength of your myID becomes your online access strength in ATO online services. Once set, you’ll need to use your myID (with the same identity strength) for all future access.
The higher your myID identity strength and online access strength, the more secure your account is from fraudsters trying to access your account or impersonate you.
What if I can no longer meet my online access strength requirements?
