I work for a private Golf Club, I had always assumed we were not an FBT rebatable company. Although looking at the ATO defintion it mentions - Sporting company with means of promoting sport. We are a not for profit but don't have charity status.

Can someone confirm? or if not let me know how I would go about finding this out.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi @RM2,

Based on the info you've provided, you're not-for-profit (NFP) organisation wouldn't be exempt from FBT.

You may qualify for a rebate if your NFP is income tax exempt and established to encourage or promote a game or sport. The criteria under FBT rebate doesn't also require your organisation to be a registered charity.

An NFP sporting organisation (that's not also a charity), self-assesses if it's income tax exempt. Please see Income tax exemption and sporting clubs

Let us know how you go and if you have any further questions

Sounds more like a mutual rather than a tax exempt entity - but hard to say without more details about the organisation. It's doesn't sound like it falls under the FBT exempt category though (see here for exemptions).
