What are the tax implications of donating a NFT to charity? If I purchased the NFT less than 12 months ago.If I created the NFT myself? If I created the NFT myself, how would it be valued?Who exactly would value it?
Hi @plasticforks,
The website advises - A capital gains tax (CGT) event occurs when you dispose of your cryptocurrency. A disposal can occur when you:
- sell or gift cryptocurrency
- trade or exchange cryptocurrency (including the disposal of one cryptocurrency for another cryptocurrency)
- convert cryptocurrency to fiat currency (a currency established by government regulation or law ), such as Australian dollars, or
- use cryptocurrency to obtain goods or services.
By disposing of it you would need to declare this as a capital gains tax event on your return. If the tokens are less then 12mnths old you would not be able to apply for the CGT discount. I'm unaware how personal tokens are valued, however you can write in to our early engagement team for further advice.
