Can I make in-specie transfers of crypto currency into my SMSF without it first being liquidated into cash and obviously keeping aware of caps. My Trust Deed states:

6. Investment6.1 Investments - General

6.1.1 The Trustee must invest any assets of the Fund that are not required for payment of Benefits or other amounts under this Deed. The Trustee must do so in accordance with the current investment strategy or strategies. The following are the types of investment in which the assets may be invested:

  1. (l) Any other investment allowed by Superannuation Law that the Trustee thinks appropriate.

Cheers

Hi @paulsimmonds

If the cryptocurrency is in your name it would be a contribution from a related party, so would not be able to be made as an in-specie transfer. Only listed securities and business real property can be contributed to a SMSF as a in-specie contribution. Crypto is not considered a listed security. We have some information on our website about related party transactions.
