This financial year, I have bought and sold varying quantities of cryptocurrency at varying prices. I'm not sure how to calculate capital gains tax for my sales (CGT).

Because of I have bought and sold at different rates, I don't know what to enter as the date acquired or what the put as the price of purchase.

Eg.

Day 1: bought $10 of bitcoin. @ price x

Day 2: bought $12 of bitcoin. @ price y

Day 3: bought $40 of bitcoin. @ price n

Day 4: sold $11 of bitcoin. @ price k

To calculate capital gains tax (CGT), I need to enter the “date acquired. How can I do this when the date could be day 1, day 2 or day 3. Do I pick the earliest one? Do I calculate an average buy price?

You choose which one you want to allocate the sale to (assuming its the same crypto).

Doesn't have to be FIFO.

Don't average.
