With COVID still an ongoing issue will it be likely that there will be another opportunity for early release of super due to COVID-19 hardship to those who missed the Dec 31 2020 deadline?

Hi @senor_lotso

Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on whether there will be new COVID-19 early access to super mechanisms. These are mandated by legislation, and while we act according to legislation, we don't write it. Any changes are made in parliament before we can act on them.

If you need to access your super, you'll need to meet one of the other eligibility criteria, which will be under one of the following:

    • Access on compassionate grounds (such as medical, funeral, or prevention of loss of home)
    • Access due to severe financial hardship
    • Access due to a terminal medical condition
    • Access due to temporary incapacity
    • Access due to permanent incapacity
    • First home super saver scheme.

If you don't meet one of these, you should speak to Services Australia to see what other assistance is available to you.

You can read more about early access to super on our website, and find how to contact Services Australia on their website.
