I have phone the ATO four times since they received my (a requested) 2001 tax return in early October 2020. Each time I am promised a tax assessment within 10 working days. What action if any can I take?

Thanks for the speedy response. The tax assessment appeared today - so I can now rest easy.

Hi @Lateline,

I can understand you're keen to have your assessment finalised, and we appreciate you reaching out to Community.

It sounds like we have confirmed receipt of the lodgment, so that's good.

Assuming you have lodged by paper, it can take a lot longer than usual to process, but there is a multitude of reasons as to why it could take longer still, case-by-case. As we can only give out general info on this forum, and not access your account, I can't confirm when it will be completed. If any further information is needed from you to complete the processing, you will be contacted.

The best action for you to take is to hold tight and wait a bit longer, and routinely check in with the Individuals team to see if any progress has been made, as you have been doing.

Considering how many times you've already called, it may be helpful to ask them if there is anything slowing down the application or if it has been put on hold due to them perhaps trying to contact you.

Let us know how you go, and if this next attempt doesn't work out for you.
