Can I claim charter flight cost?
Prior to COVID 19 I was required to travel Brisbane to Cairns to meet with a charter flight for travel to a mine site. The charter flight was at the expense of employer.
As a result of COVID 19 mine site employees have been advised they are not allowed to return to site if they take a domestic flight. As a result the mining company arranged a charter flight direct from Brisbane to the mine site located in the NT. The employer has been charging its employees $360 per round trip for the charter flight. The employees point of hire is Cairns. Due to COVID 19 the departure spot changed to Brisbane in place of Cairns.
My understanding is that FIFO workers can not claim expenses relating to travel to/from departure spot. If the departure spot is now Brisbane and employees are being forced to pay for travel from the departure spot can this expense be claimed? TIA
