Hi there.

I was a massive fan of the e-tax software in the past because I could use it to make sample tax returns (that I wouldn't lodge of course) to get a rough idea of how my upcoming return would look when July came around, and plan my finances accordingly.

Is there a way to do this using MyGov? I don't mind if it isn't perfect (i.e. if the tax rates are to change) but I really need to get a general idea of what my return might look like before July hits.

Thanks!

Hi @ensanguined,

We do have a couple of options to help estimate your upcoming tax return. You can use our income tax estimator tool to work out your possible refund or debt amount. The tool isn't updated for this financial year yet but should be from July 1 2021. You can access the estimator tool on our website.

We also have information in individual income tax rates. As the above tool isn't updated it may not provide an accurate outcome. You can also use the information on tax rates to estimate your amount of tax payable based on your income. Once you figure out how much you're required to pay, you can go over your records and determine if you've paid enough so far. This won't give you an outcome of your return exactly, but it will give you an idea.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi Ethan.

That estimater tool might actually be it!

If not I will come back and see if any other options exist (i.e. opening an old return on the MyGov site and editing it, or using my partners MyGov to make a new return as she hasn't had to make one in years?).

Cheers.
