Hi

I have work-related expenses of over $300 and do not have receipts to support my claims.

However, I have bank st/ credit card statements to prove.

Is it sufficient?

Thanks

Hi @Prasa1

You must have a record to prove it (usually a receipt) and keep the records for 5 years in most cases.

Our myDeductions app is really handy for this :)

Hi @Prasa1,

Receipts are generally best as they show the exact item purchased.

You would need to be able to prove, if asked, what item you actually purchased.

Depending on the retailer you may even be able to request them to send you a copy of the receipt if you know the time/date you purchased it.

We've got more info on our website about the types of records needed.

Thanks Nate.

just found this on the ATO, Tax myths busted.

Myth: I don’t need a receipt, I can just use my bank or credit card statement

Fact: To claim a tax deduction you need to be able to show that you spent the money, what you spent it on, who the supplier was, and when the purchase occurred. Bank or credit card statements usually won’t contain this information. The only time you don’t need these details is if record-keeping exceptions apply.

Do you think that the ATO is flexible on this?

Thanks
