Hi,

My partner & I moved interstate to FNQ at the end of 2019, both aged 58,with the intention that I would retire & he would find a new job after a few months off to settle in & explore. Then covid hit & no-one was taking on new employees. We have managed until now on my small self-funded pension & our savings, which have rapidly dwindled. My partner has just set up his own business as an arborist, but does not want to work full-time now he has turned 60 and cannot work 5 days a week in the tropical heat. My question is - can he transfer some of his super funds to a TTR fund and take an income from that whilst working part-time? All the guides I can find talk about reducing hours with your current employer, but there is no mention of having been unemployed and starting new work. If he can't benefit from TTR, is there any way to access some of his super, preferably tax free as he is 60, even though he is still working? Thank you for any help.

At age 60, he has passed preservation age - so can start TTR.

Even if working part-time, or even full-time.

If ceasing a position of gainful employment past age 60, he would pass a condition of release.

Hi Bruce, thank you so much for your reply. My confusion comes from reading, on numerous sites, advice along the lines of 'In order to be able to receive a TTR income stream, you must remain in your current job, and also reduce your working hours.'. Is this not correct? Can my partner start TTR even though he hasn't had an employer for the last 2 years? Thank you for your help.
