Hi

It seems if an employee is hired, paid and terminated all in the same pay period the employee relationship is not established for checking Super Stapling details. Can we pay to default in this circumstance?

Hi @Tammy18

In the case of an employee starting work and ceasing employment in the same pay period, they're still starting employment. There is still an employment relationship established.

Either a TFN declaration or an STP pay event are needed to be able to request stapled super. These are the proof of an employment relationship.

The employer will need to request stapled super details for this person, even if the employee has since left.

If the employee did not provide a TFN declaration, they will need to follow the steps for incomplete employee information to make sure they can comply with the stapled super requirements.

Thank you for your reply however each time a check a staff member who has terminated I get an error message "We cannot confirm an employment relationship" so it appears the relationship is no longer available

Hi @Tammy18

If you've end dated their employment in STP then yes it's likely the employment relationship no longer exists. Where possible, employers should request these details before reporting that employment has ceased.

For former employee's we'd need to manually extend the end-date to temporarily allow you to request those stapled funds. If we advise there aren't any stapled funds then you can pay to the default fund.
