Hi all. My client has just realised he is able to amend 7 years of returns in MyGov ATO online. It is showing "amend" back to 2015 and from 2014 stating "how to amend". Any idea why this would be happening? I was of the belief that only the past 2 years usually state "amend". Thanks for your help.

Hi @MichaelLong

You'll find that the amend button is displayed for all Income tax years from the 2015 FY onwards.

However, if a client selects "Amend" on any tax return lodged which has a notice of assessment that has been issued more than 2 years ago, then they'll get a message "The time limit to request an Amendment has passed".

There's more information available on amendments under time limits on tax return amendments.

Amending allowed for 2 years past assessment date.

I am guessing that an attempt to amend 2014 would only work if 2014 assessment was less than 2 years ago.

Perhaps ATO could confirm?
