Dad needs to update his name with ATO. They have his middle name as his first name. He is an Aust Citizen. Migrated 1966. The website and phone ask for Aust. birth or marriage certs. He has neither but has Aust. Passport, drivers etc. We need this done urgently to get a clearnace cert for a property settlement. How can we get his nmae updated urgently using his Aust. Ids: Passport; drivers; Aust Citizen cert, Medicare card - all are in his correct full nasme. Only ATO has it incorrectly. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Hi @Serge303,
When we update a name in our system we're required to verify a document before making the change. The documents we can verify are Australian birth certificates, marriage certificates, and change of name certificates.
Do you know if we also have your dads first name as his middle name? If so then that would be considered a minor change that can be done without the above documents.
If your dad makes the request via post they can use foreign documents (such as foreign birth certificates) instead. These documents would need to be certified copies.
Our page on updating your name runs through the postage option using foreign documents.
