Hi, I received a ATO message saying I need to pay medicare levy. I believe this should be waived as I was on 574 visa in that year. I was covered by private insurance purchased by the university. I filled the form and materials to MES@servicesaustralia.gov.au 6 months ago however never get back from it. Can you help?
Hi @yl360,
Sounds like you've done everything correctly, however, once you complete the request for a Medicare Entitlement Statement advising you were not entitled to Medicare, you should receive a letter back from them. Thereafter, you can lodge your return showing you're exempt from the Medicare Levy. We'd have a copy of this on our end also.
We'd advise you to check with Medicare why you haven't received the statement, and continue to follow it up from there. Once this is sorted lodge your return with us, and your exemption with the MES should prevent you from being charged the Medicare levy.

Hi Jodie
Thanks for your reply. After a couple of months I received the letter which advises I was not entitled to the Medical benefit in that year. However, the charge is still outstanding in ATO system. Will you get informed automatically and remove it for me?
