Hello All. I just want to start by saying that ATO should make a section on its own in mytax for cryptocurrency and not just push it to a CGT event to generalise it. This will make reporting crypto much easier and benefical overall.

I think I got screwed last year because they taxed me on my whole amount of crypto cgt when I have held it for a year. Shouldn't there be a an option or tick that says, how long have you held it.

Anyway doing my tax now and not sure where to tell this MyTax 2022 that I have held crypto for years and please give me the 50% discount.

Capital gains tax exemption, rollover or additional discount type code * is it in this section

Please help.

Also last year they taxed my on the full amount and no discount, how can I get that money back that they where not suppose to tax and no discount was applied.

PLEASE ATO NEXT YEAR MAKE A INDIVIDUAL SECTION FOR CRYPO

Best to go to a tax agent so you can be sure that it is done properly.

Your prior year error can be corrected by lodging an objection.

Hi @mrbubbles

Sorry for the delay.

I can't view your video but I'm glad you got the information you needed. I'll put your feedback through for you too.

Also about last year's return - you have two years from the date of the notice of assessment to amend it. So you can make the necessary changes and only declare what you need after applying the discount then submit your amendment.
