I have received an allowance for washing of the car, I have receipts for the cost of washing the car, and the car is a company branded work vehicle.

Even if this is for a work vehicle with an allowance paid by the employer? I'd assume that would be sufficient substantiation for the claim as a logbook would be redundant for a company car given there would be no private use.

Hi @wiz,

There seems to be some confusion.

If the vehicle is used to derive assessable income, you can claim expenses for washing it once you've met the eligibility criteria.

Keep in mind, if you receive an allowance you can only claim a deduction for the amount that goes over the allowance.

Have a look at tax ruling 95/14 on our website. The quickest way to find the relevant information is by doing a search for wash.
