Is it possible to claim a tax deduction for unsold food products donated to a DGR CHARITY?
Hi @John.English321,
While some items are tax deductible when donating to a DGR organisations , not all are. Tax laws state what types of gifts are tax deductible; for instance:
- Monetary gifts of $2 or more
- Property (including trading stock and shares) purchased by the donor in the past 12 months
- Trading stock disposed of outside the ordinary course of business
- Property (including shares) valued by the ATO at $5000 or less
- Shares listed in a public company valued at $5000 or less held by the donor for at least 12 months
- Cultural gifts*
- Heritage gifts*
*Only accepted by limited DGRs.

Hi! I’m unclear on what’s considered “property”.
I just donated a grocery shop of goods (~$200) to a DGR in a Christmas campaign. Would this be claimable?
Hey @AHS,
Yes, you can claim as a deduction, just keep the receipts etc in the event we ask you to provide supporting evidence.
