If someone has not completed a tax return when will they be chased up?

There isn't a specific date when someone might be followed up with regarding an overdue return. Once the return is overdue, they may receive texts or messages in their myGov inboxes regarding the lodgement. From there we may reach out via phone or with letters advising it's overdue. Penalties can then be applied and in some cases stronger action could be taken to address the lodgement. As for communicating with CSA, we do check with other government agencies to identify any outstanding debts when we process tax returns. If an individual lodges a return and an outstanding debt is identified for child support, any owed refund from us will be used to cover that debt first.
