So I've been looking at ATO ID 2005/284 and want to see if my sponsorships can be used as tax deductions for my small business.

I run a small business that prints 3D printed miniatures for wargaming and tabletop games. In the past, I have sponsored miniature and tournament events with a selection of models from my store. Part of the agreement with the sponsored event is that they include my logo and a link to my website as part of their own promotions on social media. These communities are small and the return on sponsorship is relatively low.

So, if I sponsor an event and provide them with $100 worth of miniatures can I claim that as part of my deduction? I don't receive any money in return for this sponsorship. Happy to provide more information as necessary.

Hi @nrgiester,

To claim a deduction for sponsorship it depnds if it can be claimed as advertising expense for your small business. If providing $100 worth of miniatures is a form of advertising which generates future income then the expenditure may be considered deductible. For certainty I recommend getting tailored technical assistance from us so you can provide more details.
