Hi,

I'm really not sure what to do next and am a bit lost.

I filed my 21-22 tax year return last year and used the information given to me by my employer to amend by income for the year as it was not being correctly pre-filled. This was my first tax return as I have moved to Australia from New Zealand and from the information provided in the tax residency quiz I am a tax resident of Australia.

After initially posting my return I was estimated to a get a sizeable tax return off my income for the period (five figure amount). I was then notified my return had been completed and my income was amended to only $409, significantly less that what the income statement provided by employer details.

I have since amended my return three times using the income information provided by my employer and every time it has been amended by the ATO to $409. Multiple calls to the ATO has not resolved this and I have simply been told to do another amendment.

What can I do next? My employer is telling me I earned $xx,xxx but the ATO says no, its $409 despite the fact I was receiving fortnightly salary over this tax period and was paying tax. I would like my income to be correctly stated on my income statement and receive any tax credits (if due any).

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Connor

Hey @cchisnall,

We're sorry you're having trouble with your tax return. An ATO-initiated amendment has most likely resulted from a data-matching review of your return.

This could be due to a change in your income details first provided to us. It could be from your employer, interest from your bank, shares or even super for example. These examples could be where figures have been provided to us incorrectly and then updated after you've lodged your tax return.

As this is a public forum, we are unable to access any records to confirm anything that may have been reported incorrectly to us. You can ask your employer if the information they have given you has been updated with us. If we initiated the amendment you can have the outcome reviewed by lodging an objection. You can read about objections on our website and what you need to submit to us.
