Hi team,

I am an Australian Citizen/National and decided to move overseas permanently in 2019. Every year I am paying the HELP Overseas Levy and have about 35k left to pay. In my superannuation account I had accumulated around 27k before I left Australia. My intention is to never to return to Australia, and whilst I am cognizant to the fact that I am not over 65 years of age (aged 30) and I am not experiencing the definition of what the ATO deems to be 'Financial Hardship', I still wanted to ask would it be possible to withdraw my entire super fund account balance in order to directly pay the ATO for my HELP loan?

I am married and have children and a house, and as mentioned above although I am not going through financial hardship, being able to do this would make mine and my families life a lot easier.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi @stefanc92,

Unfortunately, you won't be able to access your super unless you meet one of the requirements. There isn't an option to access it to cover a study loan. You also mentioned you aren't experiencing financial hardship, which is a release condition. You can read a bit more about accessing your super on our website. That link also directs you to possible early release conditions that may apply too.
