This is in relation to my personal tax. If I receive an invoice dated in May 2023 and it is payable in July 2023 and I pay it in July 2023, which financial year do I record this deduction - Tax year June 2023 or tax year June 2024?

That depends on whether the expense was actually incurred in May 2023.

  1. Yes - if the expense cannot be avoided, like an item supplied in May 2023
  2. No - if the expense is avoidable, like a subscription that will just lapse if not paid.

What if the expense is Land Tax which is payable in July 2023 and is invoiced in March 2023? which year would that be applied as a deduction, in the year ending June 2023 or June 2024?
