I'm 71 and NOT working but have income from a rental property. Can I make tax deductable contributions in this tax year 2022-2023 (I believe the term is concessional contributions?) without being subject to the "work test"?

Hi @lumba,

Yes, you can contribute to your super. It's known as personal contribution and would be classified as non-concessional contribution.

There are non concessional caps you need to be aware of. You don't want to exceed this otherwise you pay extra tax.

To be eligible to claim a deduction for personal contributions it depends where you got the income from to fund the personal contribution.

Refer to our webpage about claiming deductions for personal contributions. If you are eligible to claim, the personal contribution will be reclassified as concessional contribution.

Anyone aged 67 to 74 needs to pass the work test, or the work test exemption, in order to make concessional contributions.

Thankyou Bruce4tax, I am told that I confused things by using the word "Concessional"

I pay my tax at the end of the year, so my question should have read: Can I make a substantial contribution to my Super and claim it as a deduction on my Tax Return?
