What is the purpose of the no. of weeks rented out question in the online tax return. I noticed that when I had to make a minor change, it did not made any difference to the calculation. Does the software use this answer to apportion the expense deduction?

Everything that is asked for in the tax return has a specific purpose and in many cases multiple purposes. For instance how many weeks in the year may be used to assist with the property rental data matching program that we are running. This is to find better ways to help serve the rental property industry to meet their tax obligations.
The number is not used in calculations - ATO can ask for whatever they want on tax forms.
That's odd. I had assumed that the information is used to apportion the total expenses that I entered into the system. How misleading is that?
