Seeking advice on how to record payment made to the Queensland Revenue Office for payroll tax, is it an expense or a liability? Our business recently registered for payroll tax and made a payment to QRO. I am not sure under what account should this be recorded in our accounting software. Should we create a new expense category named payroll tax or is it a liability? Also, I believe that Payroll taxes are GST free or is it out of scope of GST?

The actual payment is an expense, and should be recorded under payroll tax on the profit and loss. GST free.
